How to take Care of my Soy Wax Candles

Soy wax candles have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their eco-friendly and sustainable properties. Made from soybean oil, these candles burn longer and cleaner than traditional paraffin wax candles. However, to ensure that your soy wax candles last as long as possible, it's important to take proper care of them. In this blog post, we'll provide you with some tips on how to take care of your soy wax candles:

Warning label

Always read the warning label, usually place on the bottom of the candle, before lightening.

The first burn is crucial

First time lighting, please ensure your burn until the wax pool reaches the edge of the jar, this will ensure your candle always burns flat and avoid "Tunneling". This process will take from 2-4 hours and is known as "memory burning".

Trim the wick

Try to trim wick to approximately 6-7mm before every use it will burn uneven. We recommend a wick trimmer.

If the wick has been trimmed too short, the wax can drown out the flame. Absorb some wax with a piece of paper towel/tissue and this should allow the flame to thrive. Be careful when doing this and do not place the tissue directly over the flame.

Avoid big flames

If the candle has been burning faster and has big flame, this may be because the wick is too long, has been burning for too long and needs to be trimmed. Extinguish the flame & trim the wick before relighting (we recommend letting the candle cool before doing so).

Watch out the time

Burn for no longer than 4 hours at a time. Do not overworked your candle.

Keep the candle away from drafts

Drafts can cause a candle to burn unevenly, and in extreme cases, it can even cause the candle to extinguish itself. Make sure to place your soy wax candle in a location where it won't be affected by drafts from open windows or air conditioning units.

Avoid blowing your candle

Try not to blow a candle out as it may splash the wax. Instead use a wick dipper to prevent smoking and hot wax from splashing.

Clean it properly

If you found dust or fingerprints on your candle, try to gently rub the surface with a piece of nylon or a soft cloth. The cloth can be dry or slightly dampened with water.

Store your candles properly

Store candles in a cool, dark, and dry place. Avoid placing candles in direct sunlight or harsh indoor lighting, such as spotlights.

Be watchful

DO NOT leave your candle unattended.

In conclusion, taking care of your soy wax candles is essential to ensure that they burn evenly and last as long as possible. By following these tips, you can enjoy the soothing and relaxing atmosphere that our Sweet as Home's soy wax candles provide while minimizing waste and promoting sustainability.
